A new programming language based on Excel.

A new programming language based on Excel.

A few weeks ago we commented on the programming languages most used and preferred by programmers, but what about those who are just starting in this world or who want to learn on their own.

Precisely because not all programming languages are accessible and fantastic for everyone, Microsoft presents an alternative to program almost without code, based on many ideas of Excel formulas.

It is called Power Fx and has been presented as a 'low-code' language, that is, a simplified language that does not require much code to achieve interesting results.

This proposal is aimed at those who master Excel and can take advantage of this practice to develop simple business or professional applications, such as chatbot or mobile applications.

According to data from Grand View Research, the trend of "low-code development" is a growing market; during 2020 it reached US$ 20,790 million and it is estimated that by 2027 it will grow to US$ 86,920 million. In addition, the consulting firm Gartner estimates that companies should consider a codeless development strategy in the future, since it is considered that these platforms will be responsible for more than 65% of all application development activity by 2024.

To start using it, all you need to do is log in to the "Power Platform" and "Power Apps Studio", and it will soon be available in "Power Automate" (the former Microsoft Flow) and "Power Virtual Agents".

Although there are already similar platforms: such as Glide, designed to develop mobile applications from Google forms and in the future we will find even more alternatives that could be classified as "low -code", as in the case of the Amazon cloud, Amazon Web Services (AWS), those responsible for the project advanced the development of a similar software called Honeycode, a service that is in Beta stage, where you can develop websites and applications that are hosted in the Amazon cloud.

Power FX is an open source language and is available on GitHub so that anyone can implement it in their own projects.
