Would you like to be an astronaut for a few minutes?

Would you like to be an astronaut for a few minutes?

Who does not dream of being an astronaut? Once upon a time during childhood, perhaps we all played to be part of the stars.

And now it can be achieved, thanks to an online program created by SpaceX engineers, using the same controls that real astronauts use in the mission of docking a spacecraft to the International Space Station, you can be an astronaut for minutes or seconds, depending on the skills possessed by the user.

When you start the web portal, the controls loaded are realistic, plus you can see a screen with the data of the movements and speed, you can perform the correct rotation and tilt, while accelerating or braking while approaching the Dragon spacecraft, which will be launched in May by Spacex, to the International Space Station.

The fun of the portal is that the simulator can be used with either keyboard or mouse, which allows each user to learn their skills using different tools and techniques. Most of the comments from other users recommend always using the keyboard, although it would be interesting to beat the personal best by using another device.

The online simulator is not only an entertaining element for everyone, but also part of NASA's educational program, although it does not include all the variables and possible scenarios that can be found, it is an entertaining alternative.

Built based on the designs created for SpaceX Crew Dragon Displays and led the team responsible for the design by Shane Mielke, who is employed by NASA as an educational resource for students in grades 6 to 12, it took 3 years to create this resource.

It should be noted that it is not a game full of action and movement, rather it is a slow environment, just as objects move in space, so it also requires skills and patience to get the spacecraft into the perfect position to dock.
